Elect David Thomforde to the TN State House of Representatives from District 23
The Supreme Court has recognized the right of equal access to education as protected under the 14th amendment and public education provides that access. It has been one of the cornerstones of our democracy. Recent efforts in Tennessee and other states to fund private education with public funds threatens public education by diverting funds. McMinn County public schools can be improved; Niche (4) rates schools using state test scores and found that McMinn County schools are rated C+ and that only 24% of students are at least proficient in math and 29% in reading. But the solution is more funds, not less. If public schools cannot attract good teachers, the solution is higher salaries. If parents do not like the public schools, they have the right to send their kids to private schools which meet state educational standards but this should not be funded by public education money.
